What's new in ktzr.io
The changes you would notice when you use ktzr.io, newest first. Small fixes and internal work are left out. More about the service is on the about page.
Free URL shorteners compared
A new page: ktzr.io next to Bitly, TinyURL and three Israeli shorteners, compared on free link limits, sign-up, ads, expiry, changing the destination, QR codes, statistics, the API and where data is stored. Every row about another service has a source and the date it was checked, and where another service gives you more, the page says so.
Temporary destinations
Point a link somewhere else until a time you choose, and at that time it goes back to its permanent destination on its own - nothing to remember to undo. Set it from the link's panel in the app or through the API, up to 365 days ahead, on every plan. Setting a temporary destination and ending one early are both recorded in the link's history.
A QR code generator and a wedding QR guide
A free QR code generator for any link, with no sign-up, and a guide to wedding QR codes for the shared photo album, gifts and RSVPs. The site's header gained a "Tools" menu.
Handling abuse reports
A link we take down after a report is marked as disabled in its owner's app: it cannot be edited or deleted, and trying shows an explanation and an email address to contact. The report form accepts our own links only.
Guides
Four guides, with a source and a check date for every claim about another service: do short links expire, which shorteners show ads, what Bitly's free plan allows, and how to check where a short link goes before you open it.
WhatsApp link generator
A free builder for wa.me links: enter a phone number and an optional prefilled message, and you get a WhatsApp link you can shorten in the app and change even after it is printed.
ktzr.io opens to everyone
The app at app.ktzr.io opened to everyone, with sign-in through a Google account. On the free plan: up to 100 active links, a QR code for every link, daily click statistics with bots counted separately, tags, and an API with keys. Every destination is checked against Google Web Risk, and a deleted link answers with HTTP 410.
