About ktzr.io

ktzr.io is a URL shortener built in Israel: a short link on ktzr.io, a designed QR code for every link and daily click statistics, with no ads and no interstitial pages.

What it does

Paste a long link and you get a short one on ktzr.io, with a QR code you can download and print. You can change where the link goes after it has been sent or printed, see how many times it was clicked each day (bots and link previews are counted separately), group links with tags, and create and manage links from your own code through the API.

How it started

ktzr.io started in 2025 as an in-house tool: the link shortener of an Israeli events platform. On August 30, 2026, it opened to everyone, with an app at app.ktzr.io and a free plan.

Two rules came with it from the world of printed invitations: a link does not expire, and you can change its destination after the invitation is already in your guests' hands.

The name

"קצר" (pronounced katzar) is simply the Hebrew word for "short", and ktzr.io is the same word in Latin letters, without the vowels. ktzr.io is not related to Katzr.Net, to the KTZR radio station in Tucson, or to ktzr.net.

What we hold to

  • No ads and no interstitial pages: a click on a link goes straight to its destination.
  • Links do not expire. A deleted link answers with HTTP 410, and its address is never given to anyone else.
  • Every destination is checked against Google Web Risk when a link is created and on every edit, and new links are rescanned daily for their first 30 days. Anyone can report a harmful link without an account.
  • No ad tracking. We measure use of the site and the app without cookies, as the privacy policy describes.
  • The free plan is a real plan: up to 100 active links and 20 link actions an hour, no credit card. Paid plans have not launched yet - see pricing.

Where the data lives

Links and statistics are stored on Google Cloud in the European Union (Firestore, region eur3), and the server that redirects your links runs in Europe, in europe-west1.

What changed, and when

Every change you would notice - a new tool, a new feature in the app, a new page on the site - is listed with its date in the changelog. Comparing services? There is also a comparison with other free URL shorteners, with a source for every row.
